HoopTools
FAQ
What
is HoopTools?
HoopTools is a basketball
statistics gathering and analysis tool that runs on Palm and
PocketPC PDAs (personal digital assistants). The power and features
of today's PDAs provides shirt pocket portability, easy entry of
statistics, powerful color graphics displays, and processing power
to provide instant shotcharts and report summaries.
How
is HoopTools different from paper scorekeeping?
The
primary reason is that the important actions of the entire game are
recorded resulting in instant insightful analysis and reporting
capabilities. With our powerful SmartStat technology, a single
person can readily capture a complete game. With game information
captured in digital form, numerous views of the statistics are
possible:
1.
Instant statistics and scoring summaries
2. Revealing team and individual shotcharts of scoring
tendencies
3. Full statistics summaries for team and individuals
4. Possession evaluation for determining offense/defense
effectiveness
5. Cumulative reporting across multiple games (league,
tournaments)
6. Replay of the game, play by play
What
is SmartStat?
SmartStat
is a collection of technologies that makes recording an entire
basketball game easy and manageable for a single person. Key
features include:
1.
Simple point and tap to enter statistics
2. Automatic recording and prompting of related statistics
3. Scalable detail capture level of statistics
4. Automatic substitution
5. Automatic game clock
What
do I need besides the HoopTools software?
Currently
HoopTools is available for Palm OS devices running Palm OS 4.1 or
newer. Recent Palm OS based products such as PalmOne's Zire 71/72,
Tungsten Series, and Sony Clie series are ideal. These newer devices
feature bright, high resolution color screens (ideal for darker
gyms), fast processing and good battery life. If your primary use of
the PDA is for running HoopTools, do not be overly concerned about
extra features or processing power. Battery life may be a more
important consideration. For example the Tungsten E is an excellent device for
HoopTools with good speed, excellent screen, and a cost of less than
$200. The Tungsten T3 is a great device, but the additional
networking, faster processing, and stretchable screen results in
less battery life between charges and the cost
is around $399.
Additionally,
for printing out the detailed reports and analysis the HTAnalyzer
application requires a Windows based PC running Windows 98 or newer.
Can
I try HoopTools before purchasing?
Absolutely.
The trial version (with user manual) is available for downloading on
our website. The
trial version is fully functional with all capturing and reporting
capabilities. After 10 days, HoopTools on the PDA will pop up a
registration reminder screen. The HTAnalyzer application will disable the ability
to print certain reports after 10 days.
Is
HoopTools available for PocketPC devices?
Support
for PocketPC devices is planned, but there is currently no
release date.
